A Devotional by Pastor Dorothy Hotchkiss

James 1:2 and 2 Corinthians 12:9 CEB (Common English Bible 2008-2011)

This week we experience a new month, a new beginning! - A promise of a “new normal” by mankind. In the Bible the book of James offers us a promise 1:2 CEB “...think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy.” How many times have you heard the expression “these trying times”? These are conflicting statements. Which one are you living by “occasions for joy” or “trying times”?

When we lack some basic need such as energy, time, money, or are restricted by something or someone else, that’s when we turn to the foundation of our life. Where does that take you? What is your foundation? - The lawyer, the bank, employer, the freezer, kitchen cupboard, family, God?

When you begin a new day, a new month, and you’re facing a day that includes the word “without...” it draws you to concentrate on the present — the present moment! Ah, that’s where you’ll find power! That is where you’ll find God. He’s been waiting for you. 2 Corinthians 12:9 CEB “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness (in test).” God’s never ending love for you, grace, can turn “these trying times”, these restrictions, these lonely hours, these fears, this time of our own weakness into JOY! - Joy that comes to you when you spend time with Him - in prayer. Remember prayer is a conversation, first you talk and then you LISTEN!
