A Devotional by Pastor Dorothy Hotchkiss

God, the Great Optometrist. Mark 10: 46-52, John 9: 35-38

“No matter what 2020 brings our hope will be in the God of the past, present, and future.

It’s natural to wonder about the future, but our challenge is not to let wonder turn into worry.

We need a way to keep the present and the future in clear, biblical focus.

The Bible helps us see the world and all its circumstances from God’s point of view.

Based on the fact that it’s an election year there will be predictions of gloom and doom, lots of disturbing speculation, clamoring about the dangers ahead.

How do you view the future through the lens of headline news? Guided by commentators sharing their political slant? View the future listening to extreme voices through a lens of worry and fear? [The Bible refers to the “lens” as a “veil” restricting a clear view.]

We don’t know what tomorrow holds for our world, but we know who holds tomorrow.”

How do you view the future? Do we need a corrective lens to be able to see clearly, remove the veil? A corrective lens is a lens that we would receive “from God’s point of view” as we become familiar with God’s Word, the Bible. As we become interested in the stories of the Old Testament and the lessons from Jesus Christ in the New Testament. Just like a routine appointment to visit the optometrist to be sure you have the clearest physical vision. Come on back for a check-up with the Divine Optometrist, God. After all you may need a new lens to be able to have clear vision spiritually as well as physically during the challenges of 2020.

Joshua 1:9 - “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
