George Duffy

George Duffy was born in Springwater NY in 1920 and died there in 1934. He was the first born child of James J. Duffy and Minnie Fisher Duffy. George died of scarlet fever before penicillin was widely available. He was 14 years old.

The Obituary of George Duffy

Springwater — George James Duffy, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Duffy, died at his home here last Thursday morning of pneumonia. He attended Springwater Union School and was in the eighth grade. He was a member of the Boys’ Brotherhood Class of the Springwater Methodist Episcopal Church School and of the Springwater Troop of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also the carrier boy for Rochester Times-Union in this village. Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Dorothy, at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George P. Fisher of Springwater; a greatgrandmother, Mrs. Sara Wheaton of Naples, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted from the home at two o’clock on Sunday afternoon, the Rev. M. H. Holmes, pastor of Springwater Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.

Bearers were members of the Boy Scouts, which organization attended in a body. Burial was in the Mount Vernon Evergreen cemetery. Taps were sounded following the service.
