The Obituary of Mark G. Walker

June 1860 - 29 July 1918

From the Cohocton Valley Times, July 1918

Springwater - The funeral of Mark G. Walker, a highly respected citizen of this village, was held from his late home, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. W. J. McGavern of Wayland, officiating.

Mr. Walker’s death, which occurred early Monday morning was not unexpected as he had been in failing health for some time.

He was a son of William and Mercy Gates Walker, and was born on the old Walker homestead on Strutt Street in the town of Springwater 58 years ago.

June 16, 1880, he was united in marriage to Margaret Staley. They resided on the Julian Morris place, just north of this village until a few years ago, when forced by ill health, they gave up farming and moved into the village where they have since resided.

Besides his wife he is survived by four children: Mrs. Burton Stuart and Mrs. Perry Hultz of this village, John of Rochester, and Lewis of Wayland, also one sister and two brothers, Mrs. D. P. Rogers and Frank and Judson Walker, all of Wayland.
