John Winch and Mary (Polly) Thompson Winch. Mary apparently also had the nickname of Polly. They had two sons together: Amasa and Lorenzo. John lived to be 90 years of age. Mary lived to be 73 years and died before her husband. They and their family lived on what was called the “Oak Openings” farm a mile or so south of the Canadice Methodist church in Canadice NY. The Obituary of John Winch

Canadice - John Winch, nearly ninety years of age, and the oldest resident of this town, died last Saturday morning at the residence of his son, Lorenzo Winch, Esq. His funeral will be at the church today. Deceased was highly respected, and had been for many years Notary Public and pension claim agent, and until quite recently enjoyed a fair degree of health and was about his business as usual.

Canadice - John Winch died last Saturday morning at 2 o’clock, at the house of Lorenzo Winch, Esq., aged 89 years. His funeral services were conducted from the M. E. Church on the Monday following, by the Rev. T. Jolley.

Mr. Winch was the father of but two children, Hon. A. T. Winch and Lorenzo Winch, Esq. He was an old and very much respected citizen, having emigrated from Mass. in quite an early day, and has always maintained a strictly moral and religious character. He was notary public and pension claim agent at the time of his death, and had been for many years.
