Henry K. Cooper was a civil engineer. When the Rochester and Corning Branch of the Erie Railroad was built, he supervised its surveying and construction. He also served as a department chief in the quartermaster general’s office in Washington, DC, during the Civil War. His home in Springwater was built in the late 1800s and burned sometime in the mid-1900s.

Born in 1830, Cooper was married first to Mary J Putnam. Following Putnam’s death in 1870, he married Mattie Snyder, daughter of Alonzo Snyder. Cooper’s only child, Elizabeth, died in 1896. Cooper died in 1916 and is buried in Mount Vernon Evergreen Cemetery.
