Mary A. Turner Harder Dies After Buggy Accident

Mrs. George Harder received injuries in a runaway accident on Jacques hill last Sunday morning, from which she died on Tuesday.

Mrs. Harder and her two daughters started for church at Hemlock Lake in a single top buggy. Some part of the harness broke as they neared the bottom of the hill, which frightened the horse and made it unmanageable. The horse ran to the right side of the road and threw Mabel from the buggy, and then took the middle of the road, which overturned the vehicle and Mrs. Harder was thrown to the ground and dragged some distance.

Mabel was quite seriously hurt, but her injuries are not considered dangerous.

Mrs. Harder was taken to Mr. Brown’s, at the foot of the hill, where a stretcher was made, and six men carried her to her own home.

She remained unconscious until Monday forenoon, but at that time consciousness returned and she conversed with her family, but soon grew worse and died the next morning. Three ribs were broken, and it is thought one of them pierced her lung.

One of the girls left the buggy to walk down the hill, but for which the accident might have resulted in two deaths instead of one. The Jacques hill road has the history of a number of serious runaway accidents, but we do not know that anything has ever occurred more terrible than this.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Harder leaves a husband and three daughters, with whom the entire community deeply sympathizes.
