The Obituary of George W. Affolter

11 September 1874 - 17 November 1945

From the Livonia Gazette, 11 November 1948.

George W. Affolter, husband of Grace Rix Affolter, died suddenly last Saturday, Nov. 6, at his home in Canadice, following a heart attack the preceding Thursday night. His sudden illness was entirely unforeseen.

Mr. Affolter was born in Livonia village, in the house now owned by William May on Summers street, son of the late Samuel and Mary Wolf Affolter. Most of his life, however, was spent in the town of Canadice where he was active in all church affairs of his community. He served the town as supervisor for 10 years, taking office in 1925 to fill the unexpired term of Carl Gibbs. He was also justice of the peace for several years.

On June 29. 1898, Mr. Affolter was married to Grace B. Rix of Canadice, and on June 29 of this year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two children, a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Affolter Goetzmann of Buffalo, and Everett C. Affolter of Canadice; eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted at the home last Tuesday. Officiating clergymen were the Rev. W. J. Brown of Livonia, former pastor of the Canadice Methodist church and the Rev. Edward T. Read, present pastor of the church. Burial was in Union cemetery, Livonia.

Burial was in Union Cemetery, Livonia, with arrangements by the Brown Funeral Home, Livonia.

She was born July 4, 1875 and was a lifelong resident of the town of Canadice. She was the widow of George Affolter. She was the oldest living member of the Canadice Methodist Church and the Honeoye Valley Grange.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry Goetzman of Buffalo; a son, Everett C. of Canadice; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
