Abner Bailey died at his home in Springwater, on Wednesday Jan. 13, 1900, Aged 85 years 2 months 9 days. His death was due to a stroke of paralysis which he suffered a few days previous.
Abner Bailey was born in the town of Milo Yates Co., N.Y., Nov. 4, 1823 and was the son of James Bailey and Jerusia Cooly. At the age of 9 he came with his father to Springwater and settled on the north end of the Story road.
On March 24, 1851 he was united in marriage to Helena Redmond, daughter of James Redmond and Roxanne Borden, who died seven years ago. Mr. Bailey moved on the farm on which he died forty years ago, and he was a hard working and energetic man.
The funeral services were held at the house on Saturday at eleven o’clock Rev. S. E. Moose officiating and he was laid to rest beside his wife and daughter in the Liberty pole cemetery. He leaves two sons Elbert and Truman Bailey of Springwater and one daughter Miss Effie at home, and 9 grand children and 7 great grandchildren to mourn his loss.
