A very happy gathering was held at the residence of D. G. Smith, Esq., of Springwater, on Monday last, the occasion being the eighty-fourth anniversary of Mrs. Lydia Barber, the mother of Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. Barber, whose maiden name was Lydia Ricks, is one of the oldest residents of Springwater, having moved to that town seventy-one years ago. Her husband, Erastus Barber, a prominent citizen of the town and who surveyed the country under the original land agency, died about twenty years ago.
Mrs. Barber has two brothers living - Lewis Ricks of Springwater and Sylvester Ricks of Livonia, both having attained a ripe old age.
Mrs. Barber’s health is excellent, her faculties are unimpaired, and she can relate incidents of seventy years ago with a clearness almost wonderful.
We wish the old lady continued health and many more anniversaries.
