Hemlock - At age 104, Jane passed away on March 4, 2022. She is survived by her daughters; Janet (John) Murphy and Mary Barnard (Rich Hargrave); son-in-law William (Sandie) Bacon; grandchildren; Sara (Jon) Bolles, Rachel (David) Brocklebank, Kellogg (Kelli) Murphy, and Shawn (Kate) Murphy; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Ruth Deck; sister-in-law Estelle Barber; many nieces, nephews, and hundreds of former students. She was predeceased by her husband Howard Barnard in 2012; daughter Carol Bacon in 2010; granddaughter-in-law Suzanne Murphy; great granddaughter Cora Murphy; and brothers Frank Decker, John Barber, Leslie Barber, and Kenneth Barber.
Jane was born in Lima, NY on January 14, 1918. She attended Geneseo Normal School to become a teacher and began her career in a one room school house. After marrying Howard, moving to Honeoye, and starting a family, Jane returned to teaching at Hemlock School. She retired from the Livonia Central School as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Jane loved people and was a lifelong “joiner.” She became a member of the Honeoye UCC, Eastern Star, IWBT, Richmond Historical Society and the Hemlock Grange. After years of organizing dinners, she “retired” to selling tickets. Jane volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Drive, was the “face” of the Honeoye Food Pantry, and in later years was a fixture in the museum at the Hemlock Fair. The secret to her long life? Hershey’s Kisses! Our heartfelt thanks to the Bridges of Mendon for their loving care over the past year.
Family and friends may call on Friday, June 10th, from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 8624 Main Street, Honeoye, NY. Jane’s funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 11th, at the Honeoye United Church of Christ, 8758 Main Street, Honeoye, NY.
Burial will be held privately at Union Cemetery, Livonia, NY at the convenience of the family.
