Not in a long time has such a feeling of sorrow rested over North Cohocton as was felt Sunday Jan. 31st caused by the death of Otis M. Beals; Mr. Beals was employed at the Cottrell office and went to his home on Wednesday before, sick with what was thought to be appendicitis, and on Saturday, Dr. Wixom called Dr. Graham of Rochester, who together with Dr. Stewart of Atlanta performed an operation and found so serious a complication of disease that it was impossible for him to recover and so passed away on Sunday at the age of 30 years.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife who was formerly Miss Emma Peabody and one son, Harlo, and one daughter, Maurine, one brother, Claude and one sister, Myrtle of Fulton, N.Y., besides a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the home on Naples street Wednesday morning, Rev. O. A. Retan officiating. The beautiful gray casket in which rested the deceased was surrounded by beautiful flowers, one beautiful piece of pink and white carnations coming from the Cottrell office force. The house was filled with friends and neighbors, a number coming from Avoca, the former home of the deceased. The burial was at Avoca, N.Y. and the bearers were D. D. Cottrell, Chas. Stoddard, Clarence Gray, Henry Wolfanger, Eugene Briggs and Frank Rex.
