Canadice - Sorrow came to many hearts when it was learned that Mrs. Hattie Becker had passed away on Sunday evening at the Mt. Morris Tuberculosis hospital, where she had been a patient for nearly a year.
Mrs. Becker had been in poor health for several years, but at times was able to work as a nurse, an occupation which she dearly loved and which endeared her to many for whom she cared and for her cheerful, efficient manner in the sick room no one would have guessed she was a sufferer.
She was born in Canadice, Aug. 20, 1889, the daughter of Richmond and Elizabeth Dalrymple Crooks, and after the death of her mother when she was a child of seven, she lived with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Heman Crooks of Springwater for a time, then at various places until her marriage to Harrison Becker on Nov. 17, 1909.
They made their home in Richmond and Canadice for a time and for several years they resided in Hemlock, where she was very active in all community affairs.
She was a member of the Methodist church and women’s society and for many years was a teacher of the juniors in the Sunday school, by whom she was greatly loved.
Her home was a meeting place for the boys and girls and they were always made welcome and she was ever ready to plan something for their pleasure.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. George Roseborough, of Lakeville; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Eveline Becker, of Hemlock, five grandchildren, Jerry and Carl Rossborough, Sally, Larry and Jack Becker; three sisters, Mrs. Zaidee Swick, Mrs. Elizabeth Heagney and Mrs. Hazel Dean of Rochester; several nieces and nephews, who have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in their hour of bereavement.
Her only son, Harland Becker, was killed by the overturning of a truck which he was operating, on Nov. 13, 1942.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church, Hemlock, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment was in Honeoye cemetery.
The many floral offerings showed the love and respect in which Mrs. Becker was held by the entire community.
