Resolution of Respect

From the Wayland Register, 15 September 1927

At a meeting of the Springwater Board of Trade resolutions on the death of Mr. W. Wesley Boies were adopted Monday evening as follows:

Whereas, the Supreme Architect of the Universe has seen fit to take unto himself our esteemed and loved member, Mr. W. Wesley Boies, we must therefore bow in humble obedience to His will, but cannot refrain from expressing our deep loss through his demise.

One of our charter members and officers, he will be sadly missed, as he was an ardent, untiring worker in all public betterment for the people of Springwater; no task too great but what it received his best effort.

He was generous, charitable and kindly with all who came in contact with him, wonderful in his home.

Although taken in his prime he left an enduring example of sterling integrity and fair dealing through every day of his life, the memory of which will last throughout the lives of those who had the good fortune to know him and which all would do well to emulate.

Therefore, be it resolved, that these sentiments, deep and sincere be sent to his bereaved wife and daughter and a copy be printed in the Wayland Register.

Springwater - W. Wesley Boies, prominent in business and church circles, who was stricken by a shock Tuesday afternoon of last week, passed away Friday afternoon without regaining conciousness.

Mr. Boies was born in Leicester NY in 1870 and came to Springwater some thirty years ago. For a number of years he was employed by the late Henry T. Grover and later went into business for himself. He built up a large furniture business and was recognized as one of the leading undertakers of the county.

In 1902 he married Miss Hannah Brewer and two years aog built a beautiful home on Mill street. Mr. Boies was prominently identified with the Springwater Methodist church and his Bible class was one of the largest in the church. In his honor all services at the church were suspended Sunday.

The funeral was held at the church Monday afternoon and was largely attended. The body laid in state from 2:00 to 3:00 o’clock after which services were conducted by Rev. H. D. Tubbs, assisted by Rev. J. W. Brown of Wellsboro, Pa., a former pastor here, and Rev. D. W. Hall. Short I. O. O. F. memorial services were also carried out, Mr. Boies being a prominent member of that order.

Burial was in Mt. Vernon Evergreen cemetery, services here being under the auspices of Warren Patchin lodge F. & A. M. of Wayland of which the deceased was a member.

Beside his wife, Mr. Boise is survived by one daughter, Miss Ruth, who is superintendent of Home Bureau of Yates County, with headquarters at Penn Yan; also one brother, Frank, of Leicester. Outside of business and church circles, Mr. Boies’ death will be felt as a personal loss in many homes.
