George W. Brokaw, said to be the last known person born in a log cabin in the Springwater area, died Sunday (Feb. 26, 1978)in the Bath Veterans Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Brokaw, whose home residence was Mill St. in Springwater, was 84.
A native and life resident of Springwater, he was a World War I veteran and was a charter member of Kern Robinson American Legion Post in Springwater.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Arlene Fogle and Mrs. Kathalene Pragle both of Springwater; a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Burns of Dansville; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Wednesday in the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland. Burial was in Covered Bridge Cemetery, Springwater.

A funeral service was conducted in the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland Saturday for Mrs. Catherine B. Brokaw, 84, of Springwater who died in Noyes Memorial Hospital, Dansville Wednesday (May 29, 1974) following a short illness.
She had lived in the Springwater area for about 35 years.
Surviving are her husband, George W. Brokaw; two daughters, Mrs. Homer Fogle and Mrs. Donald Pragle of Springwater; a sister, Mrs. Violet Wheeler of Rochester; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Covered Bridge Cemetery, Springwater.
