Wayland - Charles H. Capron, 62, businessman and civic leader died Monday (June 1, 1964) in Wayland Hospital following a heart attack.
His entire business career was with the Wiley W. Capron and Sons Inc., retail fuel distributors, and he was president of the firm at his death. The business was founded by his father Wiley W. Capron in 1866.
Charles Capron was a past president of Wayland Rotary Club, past president of Wayland Dime Savings and Loan Assoc., past president of the Cemetery Association, a former school board member, a member of Wayland Methodist Church, a board member of Wayland Hospital, a board member of Braeburn Mens’s Golf Association, a director of the First National Bank and area chairman of the Cornell Fund.
He was born Nov. 19, 1901, the son of Wiley W. and Sally Wintersmith Capron. He was a graduate of Wayland High School and Cornell University, where he was a member of the basketball, baseball and track teams. In 1924, he was selected by the Spaulding Sports Manual as a member of its All-American basketball team.
He was a member of Aleph Samach and Sphinz Head, both honorary campus organizations for junior and senior men.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Zaffke; a daughter, Mrs. Reginald (Sallie) Marchant of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Wilbur W. Capron and Theodore J. Capron of Wayland, and two grandchildren, Katharine Anne and Charles Reginald Marchant.
Friends may call at the residence where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday for relatives and close friends. Rev. Roger Williams of Wayland Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Wayland Cemetery. Contributions to the Heart Fund will be accepted.

Katherine Capron, 95, of Hamlet Manor, Chagrin Falls, Ohio died August 1, 1998 at Hamlet Manor.
She was born April 3, 1903 in Dansville, the daughter of Edward and Catharine Morsch Zaffke.
Katherine resided her early life in Dansville NY and for over 35 years in Wayland prior to moving to Naples, Fla. and Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
She attended St. Mary’s Parachial School, Dansville High School and Secretarial School.
She was employed as an executive secretary to the president of Foster Wheeler in Dansville but declined a job at the headquarters in New York to marry Charles Capron on February 11, 1929 in Dansville. Charles died in 1964.
When she resided in Wayland, she was a past president of the Wayland Free Library, a member of the Lowell Club, St. Joseph’s Woman’s Group and as a Volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bath, New York.
Katherine remarried in 1975 in Chagrin Falls, to Arthur Fertell who passed away in 1978.
Both of her husbands were Cornell Graduates and they all enjoyed golfing, travelling and bridge playing.
Predeceased by her brother, Vincent G. Zaffke of Euclid, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughter, Sallie Capron Marchant of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; three grandchildren.
