Springwater - Miss Harriet Hickok passed away at her home on Bald Hill, Canadice, at six o’clock, Wednesday morning, April 10, 1935, in her eighty-fourth year. She was born December 14, 1951, in the town of Canadice, the daughter of Samuel and Eliza Wiley Hickok.
Her mother was a member of the first graduating class of Genesee Wesleyan Seminary at Lima.
Miss Hickok had three sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Haynes, Mrs. Emma H. Hunt and Sarah Jane Hickok, and four brothers, Horatio, George W., Samuel R. and John W. Hickok, all of whom preceded her in death. Two of her brothers, Horatio and John W. Hickok, were ministers.
Miss Hickok spent her entire life in Canadice. She was a noble woman, and a woman of sound judgement. She was a kind lady, and her home was always open to everyone. She leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss.
Surviving are five nephews, S. R. Hickok of Des Moines, Iowa, Lewis Haynes of Birmingham, Michigan, James, Edward and William Hickok of Cherry Creek; one niece, Mrs. Harry Knight, of Grass Lake, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Hickok, of Cherry Creek, and five cousins, Mrs. Minnie W. Wilcox of Springwater, Theodore and Charles Capron of Wayland, and Wiley and Wilbur Capron of New York City.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Springwater and the Workers’ League of that church.
Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 o’clock Friday afternoon, and at two o’clock in Springwater M. E. church, the Rev. M. H. Holmes, pastor, officiating. During the service, Mrs. Hugh R. Norton and Miss Sue E. Webster of Springwater, sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Nearer My God to Thee.”
Burial was made in Mount Vernon Evergreen cemetery, Springwater.
