Robert “Dutch” Hoppough flew his way into heaven on March 18, 2021. He was born on Jan. 17, 1946, in Rochester, New York, the middle child and only son to Erven and Lillian Hoppough.
He was the loving, and loved, brother survived by his sisters Beverly Ciampi and Jane Henry. He met his beautiful wahine, the love of his life, Veronica “Ronnie,” and was married on Nov. 29, 1969, in Hawaii. They celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage in 2019. He is survived by his wife, Ronnie Hoppough.
He was a devoted and loving father and is survived by his five children, his daughter in-law and two sons in-law: Kimberly and John Campbell, Bryan and Jennifer Hoppough, Cindy and Nolan Lasiter, Chris Hoppough, and Tammy Hoppough.
He loved his grandchildren, and to his grandchildren he was the center of their world. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Tomas Hoppough, Courtney Campbell, Braeden Hoppough, Kailey Campbell, Chloe Hoppough, Kendall Campbell, Ethan Lasiter and Kylena Lasiter.
A chief warrant officer 4 (retired), Hoppough served his country selflessly in the U.S. Army for over 27 years and several of those years as a Chinook helicopter pilot. His loyalty and service to country equaled his devotion and love for his family. His humor and constant presence were known to his grandchildren. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by many. He was affectionately loved, and his towering presence will be profoundly missed and deeply felt among his family for the rest of their lives in this world. We love you, Hoppough.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 26, at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home, 415 Illinois St., Fairbanks, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, the Hoppough family asks that you consider donating to the Fairbanks Resource Agency in honor of Robert Hoppough.
