Springwater - Correll M. Humphrey died at his home in Springwater Thursday, Aug. 3, 1911, of old age, after an illness of some months, aged 84 years 3 months and 24 days.
Correll Humphrey was the son of Ozias Huphrey and Parnal Douglas and was born in Simsbury, Conn., April 10, 1827. He came with his parents to Springwater when 9 years of age and they settled on the farm on which he died, it being the old Humphrey homestead.
He was married in 1850 to Emily J. Erwin and to whom five children were born, four sons and one daughter.
Mr. Humphrey and his wife united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Springwater soon after their marriage and he retained his membership until his death.
He was a practical farmer and his farm and buildings were always noted for their well kept appearance. Although not aspiring to political office he held the office of assessor in the town a number of terms. He was a man of good judgment and was often called upon to settle disputes between neighbors, and as for honesty, his name had become a sermon, for how often you would hear some say, “as honest as Correll Humphrey.”
The funeral services were held at the house on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Dailey of Springwater officiating, and he was laid to rest beside his wife and daughter in Liberty Pole Cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his loss four sons, Edward of Denver, Colorado, Herbert of Abeline, Kansas, William of Livonia and Wilson at home; also one brother, Charles Humphrey of Almond NY.
