Springwater - A. Barton Hyde, 53, Springwater rural mail carrier for 16 years, died Saturday in his home in North Main Street, following a brief illness.
He was born in Springwater, June 4, 1887, and had always lived in the vicinity of Springwater and Canadice. He was born of the late Lewis J. Hyde, and Libbie Purcell Hyde of East Rochester, who survives him.
He was married Feb. 27, 1907, to Lizzie May, who also survives. Other survivors besides the mother and widow are a daughter, Mr. William F. Luther of Springwater; two sons, Glenn F. Hyde of Springwater and Ellis B. Hyde of Dansville; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth F. Beers of East Rochester, and three granddaughters, Betty, Susie and Peggy Luther of Springwater.
He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, Warren Patchin Lodge, F&AM, of Wayland; Livingston Lodge, IOOF, of Springwater, of which he was a past noble grand and the first to represent that organization as District Deputy Grand Master of Livingston District; Springwater Fire Department, of which he was president at the time of his death; Springwater Board of Trade, Springwater Rod & Gun Club, director of Mt. Vernon Evergreen Cemetery Association, Springwater; Springwater Water Company, and the Wayland and Avoca bands and O’Neil’s Orchestra.
Funeral services were to be held in the home at 2 p.m. today, the Rev. Henry I. Chattin of Springwater officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Evergreen Cemetery, Springwater.

Mrs. Elizabeth May Hyde, 58, mother of Ellis B. Hyde of the Dansville Central High School faculty, widow of Barton Hyde, passed away in a Rochester Hospital, Saturday, October 23, 1948 after an illness of three weeks.
Mrs. Hyde had the distinction last year of being the first woman to serve as an officer of a Livingston County Grand Jury. She was a member of the Springwater Methodist Church and active in its societies. She served as inspector of elections in the Town of Springwater for many years. She was a member and Past Noble Grand of Wawanta Lodge No. 11 of the Rebekahs of Springwater.
She was born in Kylertown, Pa., February 22, 1890. She moved to Canadice in 1899 and was united in marriage to Mr. Hyde in 1907. She had resided in Springwater since 1911.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William F. Luther of Springwater; a son, Ellis B. Hyde of Springwater; a sister, Mrs. Ernest W. Beach of Lakeville; a brother William S. May of Livonia; six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday with prayer at the home at 1:30 p.m., followed by services in Springwater church at 2:00. The Rev. Edward T. Read officiated and burial in Mount Vernon Evergreen Cemetery, Springwater.
