Livonia - Mrs. Fanny Merrill died at her home in this village last Friday morning, of pneumonia, at the age of 79. Her illness had not been of long duration. She attended the concert of the Jubilee Singers, but was taken sick the following morning.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church last Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Gates officiating.
Mrs. Merrill left three daughters. Mrs. E. A. Rogers of Lima, Mrs. Wheeler Hoppough of Dansville, and Mrs. Charles Gambee of this village.
She was a consistent member of the Methodist church, and a woman greatly attached to her family. She had lived in Livonia nearly all her life and leaves many friends to cherish her memory.
Livonia - Mrs. Fanny Merrill was born near Albany, Dec. 2, 1811, and died in Livonia March 16th (error: March 6th), in the 80th year of her age, realizing the fulfillment of the promise, “With long life will I satisfy thee, and show thee my Salvation.”
The maiden name of the deceased was Fanny Branch. She married Leverett Merrill Aug. 16th, 1829. Mr. Merrill died April 28th, 1882.
The deceased was the mother of ten children. Seven have died. The three now living are Mrs. E. A. Rogers of Lima, Mrs. Wheeler Hoppough of Dansville and Mrs. Chas. Gambee of Livonia.
Sister Merrill had been connected with the M. E. church for ore than thirty years. Her life had been, in many parts of it, a hard struggle - a hand to hand conflict she went down into many deep valleys of affliction; but she has, at last, ascended the mount of God, where all struggles are at an end. One hour of Heaven’s bliss will be sufficient to make her forget all the pangs she felt in her life’s journey. Some of her last words were, “I am trusting my blessed Jesus. I know he is my friend; he will not leave me now. I am ready to go; it is well with me.” The has gone to be with Him who said, “I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, there ye may be also.”
