The death of Miss Clara Northrop of Hemlock Lake has left a vacancy in the home circle and neighborhood which cannot easily be filled.
She was a lady of wondrously industrious habits - refined, cultured, eminently social, and ever ready to contribute her share in all efforts to make others happy. If any one part of her nature was more highly developed than another, it was her love of flowers, and in arranging them for festive and wedding occasions. For the house of God, and especially at funerals, did she exhibit most exquisite taste and skill.
She had been for many years a regular attendant upon the services of the house of God, an attentive and appreciative bearer of the Gospel of Christ. However, it was not until Mr. Burns held meetings in the Methodist church at Hemlock Lake during the spring of last year that she was led to give herself to the Lord, since which tie she has led a Godly life, and during the many months of her illness gave constant evidence of her preparation for “the world beyond.” Death had no terrors for her, and calmly and peacefully, yes, joyfully, she waited till the messenger came, passing without a struggle to her home on “the other shore.”
Her funeral was attended by a large number of persons from the neighborhood, attesting their regard for her and their deep sympathy for the bereaved family. The floral offerings were abundant, most beautiful and appropriate. At her request, made the day before her death, the Rev. Mr. Slaysman preached her funeral sermon (his text and subject suggested by her great love of flowers), which was followed by interesting remarks by her pastor, the Rev. Mr. Wallace.
The members of the bereaved family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to those who so kindly gave their aid and sympathy in their affliction, and to those who, with such taste and skill, provided and arranged the flowers on the day of the funeral.
