Mrs. Adelaide Roberts died at her home in West Springwater Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock, Dec. 9th, aged 68 years. Mrs. Roberts had been in failing health with rheumatism for a long time, but her death came as a shock to the community, for she was only confined to the bed for a week, death being due to pneumonia.
The deceased was well known, being a life long resident of this place. She was of that bright and sunny disposition that always cast a halo of sunshine about her and she could always see the optimistic side of everything. She was of that loving and forgiving nature that made for her many warm friends. Her friends she numbered by the scores and as to enemies we believe she had none. She was generous and charitable, always ready to help everyone in time of need. The funeral services were held at the house Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. J. E. Tallant of the M. E. church, officiating, using the text that the deceased had chosen - Rev. 14-18. “Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
On the 14th of September a number of relatives and friends gave her a surprise party, the occasion being her 68th birthday. As the crowd assembled they were received with a hearty welcome and it was a day long to be remembered, but they little thought it would be the last time they would ever meet with her.
Mrs. Roberts was a good Christian and a member of the Baptist church. The lovely casket was covered with beautiful floral tributes, and were silent witnesses of the sympathy of the kind hearts and loving hands that placed them there, and as she lay beneath that wilderness of blossoms we could all say that at last she had reached that quiet rest.
The remains were taken to the Liberty Pole cemetery and buried in the family lot beside her husband, Norman Roberts.
She leaves to mourn her loss one son, Frank Roberts; one granddaughter, Edna Barnhart, who had always lived with her; two grandsons, two brothers, Joel B. Johnson of McLean and Bert L. Johnson of this place; several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.
