Springwater - A well-known Springwater Legionnaire and area historian, J. Reid Robinson of School St., died Saturday (July 19, 1975) in Bath Veterans Hospital following a brief illness. He was 81.
A native of Canadice, he had resided in the Springwater area most of his life. He served as historian for the Town of Springwater for the past 20 years.
Mr. Robinson was a retired school teacher who taught in many schools in the state of New York. He retired from the Calton Central School 16 years ago.
A World War I veteran, he was a charter member of the Kern-Robinson American Legion Post 905 of Springwater and was post chaplain at the time of his death.
He was also serving as Livingston County American Legion historian. He was a member and past master of the Warren Patchin Lodge 883, F & AM of Wayland, and was a member of the Wayland IOOF Lodge 476.
He served for many years as superintendent for the Mt. Vernon Evergreen Cemetery Association of Springwater and was a member of the Springwater United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary Wenner of Wayland; a brother, Oakley Robinson of Springwater; two nieces and two nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday in the Springwater United Methodist Church. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Springwater United Methodist Church.
