The great event of the season at Denison’s Corners was the marriage, on the 23d inst., of Miss Chloe Ann Denison to Orren L. Short of Onsted, Mich.
It was not only a wedding occasion, but a farewell one as well. The home of the bride, which has been the ancestral home for more than a hundred years, has passed into other hands, as well as the bride herself, and the last member of that happy, respected pioneer family will become a resident of a sister State.
The bride is a most estimable lady. She stands for all that is pure and womanly. She has won the highest place in the affections and esteem of her neighbors, friends and associates.
Happily the groom is possessed of all those grand qualities which go to make a perfect manhood. Together they will be a host for good in their new home. Over 100 friends were present to witness the ceremony and extend congratulations.
The bride was becomingly gowned in a beautiful brown silk. The Rev. Mr. Robinson of Allen’s Hill officiated.
Congratulations being in order they were heartily given and cordially received, after which refreshments of a high order were served, this department being under the immediate supervision of Mrs. N. t. Ashley, which was a sufficient warrant for its completeness. After refreshments the choir, led by Mr. John Brown, sang “The Bride’s Farewell,” which was written and set to music by the bride. The sentiment expressed was a true appreciation of the circumstances surrounding the happy occasion. This was responded to by Mr. Brown in heartfelt words, which showed the hight regard we all hold for Mrs. Short.
The tokens of remembrance were many, and will be cherished souvenirs of the happy day.
Denison’s Corners will lose one of its best inhabitants, but Onsted will gain one. She will go with the best wishes and prayers of all her friends. What she has done for her neighborhood will be a living monument in the hearts of those she has left behind.
