Oscar G. Smith, 72, long identified with the dairy industry in Western New York and the entire Northeast, died unexpectedly on Tuesday (Feb. 20, 1968) in his home in Hemlock.
In addition to his dairying interests, Mr. Smith had conducted a grain and dry bean business, at Livonia Center for many years. He also operated a 400-acre farm.
Mr. Smith helped organize the Western New York Milk Producers Cooperative in 1932 and had been its president until it became affiliated with Genesee Valley Cooperatives, in 1962.
He had helped organize several other co-operatives, and had served on most of their boards of directors. Among these were the Rochester Milk Producers’ Bargaining Agency, in 1939, of which he served as presisent for several terms; Rochester Health Foundation, Rochester Dairy Council, the Oatka Milk Producers Co-Operative, in 1957, with plants near Batavia.
A requiem mass was held Saturday at St. Micheal’s Church for Oscar G. Smith, who died unexpectedly at his home on Main St., Hemlock, Feb. 20, 1968. He was 72 years of age. Arrangements were in charge of the Brennan Funeral Home, Livonia. Contributions may be made to the Heart Association.
In addition to operating a 400-acre farm, Mr. Smith for many years conducted a grain and dry bean business at Livonia and Livonia Center. He had also been active over the years in organization of farm cooperatives.

Surviving are his widow, Elsie; one daughter, Mrs. Anthony Wild of Wrexham, Denbigshire, England; two grandchildren, Stephen Wild and Linda Wild; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Reahr of Hamburg and Mrs. Clarence Meyer of Buffalo; several nieces and nephews.

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Elsie Jeanne Smith, wife of the late O. G. Smith of Hemlock and dearly loved mother of Phyllis Smith Wild of Guernsay Channel Islands, England, who died in her sleep Saturday, Oct. 23, 1971.
Mrs. Smith was a gold star mother. Her son Sydney died in a plane crash during World War II.
She also leaves two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services in Livonia will be announce at a later date.
