Ellis N. Stone, native of the town of Livonia and resident here for many years, died at the Armstrong Home in Honeoye Falls last Monday at the age of 88. His death was preceded by no long illness, for he voted the preceding Tuesday, his birthday.
Mr. Stone was one of the five children of the late Joel and Anna Stone Stone, and was born on the homestead on Stone Hill road, northeast of Livonia village. He and his wife moved to the village about 40 years ago, following the death of their son, Truman, when they bought the Linden street residence where Thomas Porter Miller and family now live. Mr. Stone’s business was farming until he moved to the village, after which he devoted his time to painting and carpenter work. About four years ago he went to the Armstrong Home to live. He was a staunch supporter of the Livonia Presbyterian church.
Mr. Stone was married twice, first to Miss Hattie Marsh of Rochester, and some time following her death to Miss Jennie Short of Honeoye. His only survivors are nieces and nephews, Mrs. Marion Newton of Norfork, Va., Mrs. Lucy Hall of Demarest, N.J., Albert Stone of Rochester, and Raymond Stone of Harriman, Tenn.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at the Reed Funeral Home, with burial in Union cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Jennie Short Stone, wife of Ellis N. Stone of Livonia, occurred at the Strong Memorial hospital in Rochester at 10 o’clock Monday evening, following an illness of about a week. Pneumonia and complications were the cause of death. Mrs. Stone was taken to the hospital Monday morning.
Mrs. Stone was the daughter of the late Seneca Truman Short and Delia Stevens Short, and was born January 23, 1858, in the town of Richmond on the farm now known as the California ranch, on the west side of Honeoye lake. Following her attendance at district school she went to Lima seminary, and after finishing there taught for a time. In October of 1888 she married Mr. Stone. The one and only child, Truman, died at the age of 19 and soon after, about 1908, Mr. and Mrs. Stone moved from Livonia Center to Livonia village, where they have resided since. Mrs. Stone was a member of the Livonia Presbyterian church and a charter member of the King’s Daughters.
Besides the husband, the survivors are her mother, Mrs. Delia Short; two sisters, Mrs. Mettie Wicker of Rochester and Mrs. Oriel Macomber of Salisbury, Md.; one brother, Ernest Short of Hemlock; and one step-son, Howard Stone of Rochester.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, and were conducted by the Rev. Angus McMillan, a former pastor of the Lima Presbyterian church, now of Scottsville.
Burial was in Union cemetery.
