S/Sgt Charles T. Wesley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Wesley of Hemlock, who has been with the second armored division since joing the army, Feb. 14, 1941, has recently been promoted to T/Sgt.
He has been overeas since December 1942, and received his promotion from T/5 to S/Sgt on April 1, 1944. His wife, Beatrice Wesley, of Allen’s Hill received the following letter on Aug. 6, from his commanding officer, Maj. Gen. Edward H. Brooks:
“I was delighted to learn of the remarkable progress of your husband, Technical Sergeant Charles T. Wesley, of the 92nd armored field artillery battalion, who has just won his third promotion since joining this division.
Your husband has attained his new position through intelligent application of the military principles in which his has been instructed, and his latest promotion places him in a position where his skill and leadership will have an important bearing on the coming successes of his unit on the field of battle.
You may well be proud of your husband. His progress justifies the confidence of our nation’s leaders in the ability of Americans to rise rapidly and energetically to meet the threats of our enemies.”

After graduating from High School I worked at several jobs from 1938 to 1945. Married Charles T. Wesley on Dec. 18th 1941. He was in Military Service from 2/1941 til 10/1945. Our children were born in 1946 and 1949 and I was housewife and mother during this time.
Went to Rochester School of Practical Nursing in 1962 and 1963. Worked at Strong Memorial Hospital for 1 1/2 years and was stricken with a rare Blood Dyscrasiz. Recovered and returned to nursing at Highland Hospital for 17 years. Retired 31 December 1982.
Charles passed away on 21 November 1980. I still live in the home we built in Hemlock in year of 1950. I keep busy with some special duty nursing/substitute nursing at Livonia Central School, hold an office in my church and am especially active in politics on the local and county levels.
Our first son Donald attended Fredonia State Teachers and has taught High School English for 20 years. He has been Chairman of the English Dept. for 17 years. He has been taking courses at U of B for the past 6 years and this summer has been selected as Director of Special Education in Gowanda where he has lived for 20 years. He has 4 children, Amie Lynn who is starting her 3rd year at Brockport SUNY, Robert will be a senior at Gowanda Central, Charles will be in 2nd grade at Gowanda and Abigail, 4 years old is in nursery school. Don’s wife Penny also teaches at the Primary school.
Our second son Richard went to Albany SUNY and Cornell Law School, practiced law in Rochester and Geneseo then in 1982 became our District Assemblyman, after 2 terms he was elected in fall of 1986 to Seventh Judicial Supreme Court Judgeship which he totally enjoys. He has 2 children, Sarah Elizabeth, 9 years old and Matthew Richard 6 years old. They attend Livonia Central School where Dick and family now live. Kathy, Dick’s wife, is a librarian and will be starting this fall as Primary School Librarian at Livonia.
