The community was shocked to hear of the death of Orville Childs on Monday evening. Mr. Childs had been in ill health for a long time and it is believed that was the reason for his becoming despondent and taking his life.
He was 75 years of age and is survived by his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Carpenter of Hemlock and Mrs. Flora Metzger of Newark, NJ; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from is late home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with interment in Union cemetery, Livonia.

Hemlock - Mrs. Ellen Childs, an old resident of Hemlock, passed away last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Byron Carpenter. Mrs. Childs was 81 years old and had spent most of her life in and around Hemlock, with the exception of a few years in Manchester and Shortsville.
She was married in 1881 at South Bristol, Ontario county, to Orville Childs, who died several years ago. Two daughters were born to them, Mrs. Fred Metzger of West Orange, NJ, who died a short time ago, and Mrs. Carpenter of Hemlock.
Besides her daughter, she leaves four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Connor and Mrs. Carrie Hoppough, all of Hemlock.
Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carpenter, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. William Brown of Livonia, and Rev. John York, pastor of Hemlock Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery Livonia.
Mrs. Childs was a member of Hemlock Methodist church and a very active member of Hemlock branch of the W.C.T.U.
