A Biography of Jacob Francisco

Jacob Francisco was born at Skainsborough, Washington county, N. Y., on the 19th of September, 1803.

When quite young he removed with his parents to Pompey, Onondaga county, where he lived until 1825. While residing in Pompey he learned the blacksmith’s trade, at which he worked the most of his life.

On the 26th of January, 1823, he married Louisa Goodfellow, of Manlius, by whom he had eight children; the oldest was born in Pompey.

Mr. Francisco removed to Canadice in 1825, and has been a resident of this town ever since, except about two years he resided in Canadaigua, where his second child was born; the other six were born in Canadice. One of his sons, who was in the war of the rebellion, was literally starved to death in Andersonville prison.

Mr. Francisco was, many years ago, captain of a company of militia in Canadice, which office he held for many years, and is called Capt. to this day.

About fifteen years ago he bought the farm on which he now lives, and has worked the farm most of the time himself. Mr. Francisco is now in the 79th year of his age, and in the 60th year of his married life, and is as smart as most men of his age, enjoys a fair degree of health, and appears to enjoy life as well as those in more afflluent circumstances.

Canadice, NY - Mr. Jacob Francisco, an old resident of this town, was buried on the 20th inst. Deceased had been living with his son, John Francisco, at Portage, N. Y., and died there after a lingering illness. He leaves a large family of sons and daughters.

Canadice, NY - The funeral of Jacob Francisco was held at Canadice last week Thursday. Mr. Francisco died in Allegany county. His wife died about a year ago. They had been married over sixty years.

Canadice, NY - July 27, 1882, Mrs. Louisa Francisco, aged 77 years. Deceased had lived with her husband, Jacob Francisco, nearly 60 years, who was two years her senior, and now survives to mourn her loss.

She was a daughter of Ichabod, Sr. and Phebe (Huntley) Goodfellow.

Canadice, NY - Mrs. Jacob Francisco of Canadice died on Thursday of last week at the age of 77.

Canadice, NY - Again the death knell has sounded in our ears. Mrs. Jacob Francisco died on the 27th inst., in the 77th year of her age.

The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church on the 29th by Rev. Mr. Slaysman, of Hemlock.

Mrs. Francisco was for many years a member of the Baptist church in Richmond, and until that church was disbanded. She is believed by her friends and neighbors to have been a true Christian woman, and has gone to reap the reward of the righteous.
