William W. Hoppough, Hemlock resident for over 70 years, died at his home there Monday afternoon, May 29, 1950, after a long period of poor health. For the last four weeks he had been confined to his bed. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Hemlock Methodist church, with interment in Union cemetery.
Mr. Hoppough was one of five children of the late John and Margaret Scott Hoppough and was born in Canadice 73 years ago. The family moved to Hemlock village when he was two years old, and there he had spent his life. For 50 years of this period he had lived in the same house where he died.
Mr. Hoppough was always active in worthwhile enterprises, and he was widely known because of his association with the Hemlock Fair and because of his political interests. Though he was a past president of the fair society, he was best known as race secretary, which office he held continuously for at least 30 years. A Democrat in politics, he represented the town of Livonia on the Livingston county board of supervisors from 1926 to 1933, inclusive and was otherwise active in the councils of the Democratic party. He was a past director of the Stewart National Bank and for many years since retirement from the supervisorship was manager of the A. N. Stewart estate farms. He served a long period of trusteeship on the board of the Hemlock Methodist church and was a member of the board at the time of his death. He was also a past member of the Hemlock board of education. To the Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a past grand, he had also devoted much time and effort, and only last year was presented with a 40-year pin. Grange work also claimed his attention and the local civic club. It would be difficult to mention any constructive local enterprise where Will Hoppough, his interest and his counsel were not to be found. He was the type that a community can ill afford to lose.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sadie Wingate Hoppough; four children, John of Rochester, Mrs. Vera Crain of Rochester, Gordon and Thelma of Hemlock; six grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Craig Woodruff of Syracuse.

The entire community was inexpressibly shocked and saddened by the announcement, Friday morning, of the death of Mrs. W. W. Hoppough. The village of Hemlock had always been her home, and she was beloved as a wife, mother and friend.
She is survived by the husband, three children, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey W. Wemett, a brother Edward, and two sisters, Mrs. Schneck of Hemlock and Mrs. Locke of Livonia.
She will be sadly missed in many places other than the home circle. A woman of beautiful character, a devoted wife, a loving mother, daughter and sister, the home, the church and the community have sustained a loss almost irreparable, and no words can express the sympathy that goes out to Will and his motherless little children, and to the others whose sorrow is so great.
