News has been received by Mrs. Elbert Knapp of Hemlock from the war department of the death of her husband, Pfc. Elbert Knapp, “Somewhere in Germany,” Dec. 14, from wounds received in action. About ten days ago Mrs. Knapp received a telegram stating that he had been wounded in action on Dec. 4, and although it was not definitely stated, Mrs. Knapp feels that he must have died of the wounds received at that time.
Pfc. Knapp was born in Hemlock May 6, 1910, son of George and Mary Harder Knapp, and had spent all of his life in Hemlock. He was a graduate of Hemlock High school and during his school years was active in all kinds of sports. On Aug. 10, 1935, he was married to Dolores Gallagher.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. George Knapp, and two children, George, 7, and Deanna, 4.
Pfc. Knapp entered the service last March and was sent overseas about Nov. 1, going first to Scotland, then Southern England and finally across into France with the infantry.
