Oswald W. Locke of Livonia, known to all of his many friends as “Ossie”, died in his Washington Street home at 4:20 yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, May 25, 1955. He had been in increasingly poor health since he was first taken sick in 1948, and had been confined to the bed for the last four weeks and a half, unable this week to take any nourishment whatever.
Mr. Locke was the son of the late Fred and Mary Wood Locke and was born in Livonia 66 years ago last January. He attended Livonia High School, and later an engraving school in Rochester. Engraving and watchmaking were his trades, and he plied them in Livonia with the late Floyd Wemett, in Bath and for a short time in Avon. Preferring outdoor to indoor work he changed occupation, and in 1926 was appointed Livonia’s town superintendent of highways, to complete the unexpired term of Harvey Wemett, whose death caused a vacancy. In this office he continued for 26 years because of the splendid character of his work to which he devoted himself completely. In 1952 he declined renomination because of the condition of his health.
He was a member of Livonia Masonic Lodge, of the Hemlock Odd Fellows Lodge and of the Livonia Fire Department: of the last-named he was treasurer for many years.
In 1911 Mr. Locke married Miss Ethel Wemett of Livonia and they had lived in Livonia ever since. Survivors besides Mrs. Locke are an aunt, Mrs. Nellie Yorks of Perry, and several cousins.
Friends are invited to call at the Brown Fumeral Home, Washington Street, Livonia, from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with interment in Union Cemetery, Livonia.
