Mrs. Phebe Norton, widow of the late Daniel Norton, and most highly respected in the town, died at her home here early Monday morning.
She was born in Springwater, where she spent practically all her life, May 20, 1837, and was a daughter of Stephen and Phebe Horton Robinson.
Sixty three years ago she was united in marriage at Corning to Daniel Norton, whose death occurred some time ago.
The deceased was a devoted member of the Methodist church for over fifty years, a teacher of the Norton Bible class, and a former president of the Ladies’ Aid Society. In every crisis she stood loyally by the church, and was ever ready and willing to give of her time and strength to further the cause of Christ’s Kingdom. She was especially thoughtful and considerate of others and woN a host of friends by her gentle unassuming ways.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the residence, Rev. Tallant officiating.
She leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter, Mrs. Edward Withington of Rochester; two sons, Dwight and Hugh, of this village; also two grandchildren, Paul Withington and Eileen Norton.
