60th Anniversary of George and Ethel Mastin Richardson

From the Valley News of Springwater NY, 17 February 1966

Mr. and Mrs. George Richardson of Springwater NY celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 10th 1966 at their winter home in Union Park, Florida. Mr. Richardson is retired from the Sheriff Department of Livingston County.

They have 5 children, 37 grand children and 55 great grand children.

Mr. and Mrs. Richardson have spent the last 5 winters in Union Park, Florida. They held an open house in the evening and their guests were: Mrs. Magness and Mrs. Well also Mr. and Mrs. Barney Fogle stopped for a visit on their anniversary. Mrs. Hillman and grandson Jimmy from St. Petersburg, Florida came to spend the weekend with her parents.

Neighbors came at night with ice cream and cake. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Milo Burgess, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Washburn, Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Mastin, Mr. and Mrs. William O’Grady, Mr. and Mrs. John Read, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Washburn, also their granddaughter Rose and husband and daughter Carol. Two great grand children were present.

Springwater - George A. Richardson, 89, retired Undersheriff of Livingston County, after a long illness, Sunday, January 2, 1977, in Geneseo. He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hillman of Pinellas Park, Florida, Mrs. Beulah Nichols of Geneseo, and Mrs. Bernice Hoffman of Wayland; 1 son Alonzo Richardson of Englewood, Florida; 26 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

George Richardson was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on 4 April 1887. His parents were William Woolsey Richardson (1844 - 1898) and his mother was Lucy Evalin Wilbur (1861 - 1944). A turn of circumstance brought him to Springwater NY as a young man and he never went back. He and Ethel Mastin were married on the 10th February 1905 and the marriage was registered in Springwater NY in 1906 as #279. They had six children. He was a Deputy Sheriff for some of his life and died on 2 January 1977 in Geneseo New York.

Friends may call at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, Wayland, NY, today 7-9 p.m., where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment in Mt. Vernon Evergreen Cemetery, Springwater NY. Friends who wish may make contributions to either the Springwater or Geneseo Volunteer Ambulance Services in memory of Mr. Richardson.

Springwater - A funeral service was held Monday, May 10, 1971 in Springwater NY for Mrs. Ethel M. Richardson, 82, who died May 5, in an Orlando, Florida hospital.

Ethel Mastin was born in Burns, New York and came to Springwater NY, and she resided in the area all of her life. She and her husband celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last February in Florida. She was a former member of the Springwater Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Springwater Methodist Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bernice Hoffman of Wayland, Mrs. Beulah Nichols of Geneseo, and Mrs. Dorothy Hillman of St. Petersburg, Florida; two sons, Claude of Wadsworth and Alonzo of Lakeville; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Bacon of Hemlock and Mrs. Lottie Fogle of Clairmont, Florida; 26 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
