Hemlock - The sudden and tragic death of Frank Short of Hemlock, 56 years of age, occurred at 3:20 yesterday afternoon, when he was caught in the fly-wheel of a gasoline engine which he was oiling and was instantly killed. The back of his head was badly mutilated.
Mr. Short was sawing wood in the shed on his farm, had finished the job and was oiling the engine preparatory for future work. In some way his clothes were caught and he was dashed to his death. The two Thorpe boys were present, John have been helping him. They ran at once to the house, notifying Clifford Washburn, who ran to the shed and shut off the engine. When the engine stopped Mr. Short was still caught in the wheel.
The funeral services will be held at the house Sunday afternoon, the hour to be determined upon and announced later. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Livonia.
Mr. Short is survived by his mother, Mrs. Speedie Short; his wife, Mrs. Kittie Thurston Short; one sister, Mrs. E. H. Westbrook and one son, Nathan.

Mrs. Katherine Thurston Short, widow of Frank D. Short, died Tuesday, April 22, 1958, at the Knorr Sanitarium in Rochester. She was in her 83rd year and had been in poor health for several months.
A daughter of George A. and Margaret Ella Thurston, Mrs. Short was a resident of Hemlock until after her husband’s death in 1929, when she moved to Rochester. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and of the Mellia Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving are a son, Nathan; and a sister, Mrs. Bess Colegrove, both of Hemlock.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday in the Brown Funeral Home, Livonia, with burial in Livonia Union cemetery. The Rev. James King, pastor of Hemlock Baptist Church, will officiate.
