Canadice - Word was received here Monday of the suicide of Gilbert Struble, by hanging himself in his barn on the forenoon of that day. Mr. Struble was a resident of Canadice and leaves a widow and three children, one son and two daughters. He was a man of good moral character and no cause for the deed is known. He has been unfortunate financially and it is thought his mind might have become affected by despondency.
Canadice - The funeral services for Gilbert Struble were held from the church Thursday of last week, the Rev. Mr. Dickerson officiating.
The whole community sympathizes with Mrs. Struble and her three children in their hour of crushing sorrow.
The supreme medical examiner of the Knights of the Maccabees settled the claim of Mrs. Struble on the 11th inst. Mr. Struble took out an insurance of $3,000 with the order twelve years ago, and in spite of adversities and misfortunes his assessments were kept up. But the laws of the order do not recognize the claim on such a death, allowing only twice the amount of the premiumns paid. This would only give the family $609. But on account of the long term of membership and the financial circumstances of the family, a settlement was made at $2,000, which perhaps may be considered liberal.
But such a rule should be done away with. The family should get the amount on which the assessments were paid, without regard to the manner of death.
Frank Gilbert Struble was buried in the Canadice Corners Cemetery.
