Marriage of George E. Weed and Kathleen A. Clayson

From the Valley News, Springwater NY, 7 August 1969.

Miss Kathleen A. Clayson of Springwater became the bride of George E. Weed of Webster Crossing during an exchange of vows in the Springwater Methodist Church Saturday, August 2, 1969.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith V. Clayson of Springwater. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Brenard E. Weed of Webster Crossing.

The Rev. Raymmond Horan performed the ceremony. Soloist was Miss Virginia Weed, the groom’s sister, who sang, “O Promise Me”. Organist was Fay Duffy.

Escorted to the alter by her father, the bride wore a gown of silk organza appliqued with Alencon lace. A scoop neckline and long sleeves enhanced the bodice designed with empire waist. The A-line skirt terminated in a detachable train and she carried a cascade of white mums and daisy pompoms.

Ellen Schmidt of Rochester who wore a floor length empire gown of maise Karote with oval neckline and short sleeves. The gown was accented by a satin band and bow in the back. She wore a matching Dior bow and tulle veiling and carried a topiary bouquet of daisy mums.

Wearing identical gowns in nile green were Miss Virginia Weed of Webster Crossing, the groom’s sister; Mrs. Marie Weed of Scotia, his sister-in-law; and another sister, Miss Mary Weed of Webster Crossing, bridesmaids. Their headpieces and bouquets were similar to those of the maid-of-honor.

Andrea Thompson of Springwater, the bride’s cousin, was flower girl. Her dress was of white alencon lace. She wore a Dior headpiece and carried a basket of daisy pompoms and rose petals. Best man for his brother was James Weed of Scotia. Ushers were Arthur Hauf of Waterloo, Randy Wolfaner and Jerry Ernst both of Springwater. The groom’s cousin, Timmy Hartson, was ringbearer.

Following the ceremony, a reception for 200 guests was held at Lambo’s California Ranch in Honeoye.

The bride is a senior at Brockport State University College. The groom was graduated from Wayland Central School and Alfred Ag-Tech. He is now attending Rochester Institute of Technology.

Following a wedding trip to the Pocono Mountains, the couple will reside in Rochester.

Pre-nuptial events included showers given by Miss Schmidt, Mrs. Burton Thompson, Mrs. Duffy, Mrs. Roland Gowen and Mrs. John Holbrook.

The Obituary of George E. Weed

23 July 1949 - 12 May 2013

From the Genesee Country Express, 6 June 2013

Memorial services for George and Kathleen Clayson Weed, son and daughter-in-law of Gladys Weed and the late Bernard Weed of Websters Crossing, have been set for Saturday, June 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the RIT Inn & Conference Center, 5257 W. Henrietta Rd., Henrietta, N.Y. There will be a catered luncheon following the service.

George and Kathleen died on May 10, and [George on] May 12, along with their 6-year old black Lab, Saddie, in Pennsylvania from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle accident on I-81.

The crash involved three tractor-trailers and is still under investigation. Once it is complete, police will determine whether charges will be filed against the tractor trailer driver who crashed into the Tahoe the Weeds were riding in. State Police spokesman Rob Hicks said previously the Tahoe and two tractor-trailers ahead of a third tractor trailer braked to slow down for traffic backed up before Route 581. The third tractor-trailer driving behind the Tahoe did not stop in time. The tractor-trailer hit the Tahoe and it smashed into the back of the tractor-trailer in front of it, Hicks said. The second tractor-trailer then hit the back of the lead tractor-trailer. The crash occurred just past Exit 57 on northbound I-81 and closed a portion of I-81 for several hours Friday.

Both George and Kathleen grew up in Springwater and have deep roots in the community. George and Kathleen are survived by son, Bryan Weed, and daughter-in-law Janet Weed; daughter, Tricia Weed; and grandchildren, Keith and Jaxon Weed, mothers, Gladys Weed, and Veronica Roni Clayson, FL, and many extended family and friends.

Both were committed to serving the Rochester community. George with over 30 years of service at Kodak and as a consultant for the Environmental Protection Agency, and Kathleen with over 24 years at the Rochester City School District as a teacher.
