Canadice - After a short illness Abigail Jane Winch, a lifelong resident of Canadice, died at her home here Tuesday morning, May 7th. She was born in Canadice July 3, 1829, being 88 years and 10 months old, the oldest person in the town.
Her parents were Thomas and Zeruah Rudd Doolittle, pioneer of the town owning the farm now called the Darron farm. She had eleven brothers and sisters, seven of whom lived to old age.
In 1849 she married Lorenzo Winch, also of pioneer stock. Her husband died in 1902, but from choice the farm was still her home. She had five children, two of whom have passed on. One son, Wilbur E. Winch, two daughters, Emma J. Winch and Mrs. Albert Tibbals; one brother, Barak R. Doolittle of Syracuse, and a large circle of nephews and nieces are the nearest of kin to mourn her loss.
Soon after her marriage she joined the M. E. church here, of which she was a loyal member till the Master called her from her beloved earthly home to the home above.
She will be missed in the church and community, but more especially in the home, where the interest of all the family clustered around mother.
The funeral was held May 9th from the church, the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Bucher, officiating.
Interment was in the Canadice cemetery by the side of her husband. The immediate friends of Mrs. Winch were truly gratified for the beautiful floral tributes presented by the neighbors.
