From the Livonia Gazette, 6 May 1921

Hemlock - Mr. and Mrs. George A. Thurston, 82 and 76, years of age respectively, celebrated their golden wedding on Tuesday of this week at their home in this village.

There had been no death in the family during the fifty years and unusual circumstance, until last April, when Sally Edgerly, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Thurston, died at Holley, Orleans county.

There are five children and twelve grandchildren, all of whom were present. They are Mr. and Mrs. George T. Thurston and children, Wesley, Blanche and George, of Rochester; Mr. Glenn and Mrs. Lottie Crout and children, Pauline, Audrey and Harold of Rochester; Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Thurston and children, Ruth, Sue and Ella of Holley; Mr. Frank and Mrs. Kittie Short and son Nathan and Mrs. Bessie Colegrove and son Myron of Hemlock.

There were present also Mr. and Mrs. Barton Clark and son Edward B. of Shortsville and Mrs. Abby Andrews and Mrs. Sarah Clark Austin of Perry. Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Austin and Mr. S. Clark were present at the wedding fifty years ago.

George A. Thurston and Ella M. Austin were married at her home in Perry Center by the Rev. J. P. Root May 3, 1871. Mr. Thurston was born nearly across the street from their present home and has always lived in this school district.

The bride and groom of fifty years are remarkably well and do not exhibit any indication of the long lapse of years. They enjoyed the dinner as well as any of the children and grandchildren and did it full justice. Mr. and Mrs. Thurston have the hearty good wishes of their many friends here.
