On Memorial Day A clip from the Livonia Gazette, 3 June 1887. Hemlock - The day was never observed at Hemlock Lake in a more satisfactory manner. The J. P. Rudd post formed at the church at 1:30, with the band in the lead, and, with the Sons of Veterans, citizens and school children, with baskets of flowers, marched to the cemetery, where the regular grand army exercises were gone through with. The following is a list of the graves decorated: Henry Hillard, 1812; Daniel Stilwell, 1812, Joseph King, 1812, and Benajah Rouse, George Merrill, Horace Potter, Pitt Fisher, Elmer Bugbee, James Curran and Wm. White, soldiers of the Rebellion. After the return to the church there was singing by the choir, and the Rev. Mr. Dixon of Auburn delivered an address, which we hope to lay before the readers of the Gazette next week. |

The Obituary of George W. Merrill 1839 - 3 February 1861 No obituary found. George W. Merrill was the son of Leverrett and Fanny Branch Merrill. He lived from 1839 to 1861 and was buried in the Village cemetery in Hemlock NY. George W. Merrill was a veteran of the Civil War serving in the 6th New York Volunteer, Calvary Regiment.
