An Accident Befalls William L. Wemett From the Naples Record, 30 September 1876 Canadice - A sad accident occurred in town on the 23rd inst. The Canadice B. B. C. were met, as is their wont on Saturday afternoons, for practice, and although a slight sprinkle of rain rendered a game somewhat unpleasant, yet they continued the sport until one of their number, Lemon Wemett, was seriously injured by a bat flying from the hands of the batsman and hitting him on the forehead so heavy a blow as to crush the skull. He was carried to the nearest residence, Mrs. Ganung’s, and medical aid immediately summoned. At this hour of writing his condition remains unchanged. The fracture is about the size of a half dollar coin, but the Dr. is of the opinion that the brain is not seriously injured. He has retained his mind since the accident, but being of a nerveless temperament is quite restless. Dr. Connor of Springwater is in attendance. Mr. Wemett is a young man of steady and industrious habits - has been married about one year. A few months since his young wife had a serious limb fracture, and cannot now walk without assistance. The sympathy and aid of this community is freely offered to this doubly afflicted family, and earnest hope is entertained that they may be restored to health and happiness.

The Obituary of William L. Wemett 24 November 1850 - 24 November 1876 From the Ontario County Times, 6 December 1876. Canadice - The baseball accident that happened in this town some time ago resulted fatally at last. Your readers will doubtless remember that Wm. L. Wemett was severely injured while playing ball in this town, on Saturday, the 23d of September last, by receiving a heavy stroke on the forehead from a ball club, which crushed in his skull. After several weeks he so far recovered as to be about again, and subsequently, considering himself well, commenced work. On the 20th ult., while at work laying stone wall, he took a severe cold, which became seated in the injured head, causing inflammation of the brain and terminating in his death on the 24th ult. He was twenty-six years of age on the day of his death, and leaves a wife and one child to mourn his untimely end.

The Obituary of Belle Struble Wemett 1858 - July 1877 From Ontario County Times, 1 August 1877 Canadice - Again death has invaded our community, and friends have followed to the grave a loved one. On Sunday evening, the 22nd instant, Mrs. Belle Wemett died of rheumatism and fever, aged eighteen years, at the residence of her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Struble, of this town. Deceased was the widow of the late W. L. Wemett, who died a few months ago from the effect of a stroke on the head with a ball club. And thus has the wife early followed the husband to the tomb, leaving an infant son in orphanage. The funeral services were conducted by the the Rev. G. S. Watson, at the M. E. church on Tuesday last.
